What’s the most interesting thing you have done as a local guide?
In our city we have a population of over 140,000 inhabitants. Encarnación is the third most populated city in Paraguay. It is often the case in our cities to find streets or public squares without specific names of addresses, therefore residents usually use public buildings, local businesses, known parks and squares as references to guide themselves.
Tourists, visitors and locales often need these references to effectively beach their desired destination and/or find the place they are looking for. Considering these facts, the owner of this account, who runs a hostel accommodation, Dario Leonardo Uarte, took the challenge of being a local guide and bean filling up the missing of non existing references for the benefit of the city and visitors.
The amount of data, photos and information loaded opened the possibility to acquire Moderator status. Which allows for further improvement of the referencing system.
Travelers usually look for references before shopping, visiting or any other activities, and the preferred platform is Google Maps. However depending their country of origin they also use different platforms such as: Waze, Foursquare, TripAdvisor and others. The chosen platform is the one they are most familiar with and preferable the one that needs no internet connection.
The uploading of public space and further references for locales and visitors is an important task currently being done by this account, as a way of digitally help the community and boost local businesses and micro economy.
In the future, local guide must add to the aforementioned references: bus itineraries, bus lines, trains and planes departure time and other transportation means, this would greatly improve and ease circulation in the places where tourists and locals visit. This information will be very helpful for Google Maps and other platforms users.
