#102 Bappanadu Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple – A Symbol of Faith, Heritage & Harmony

Bappanadu Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple is a renowned Hindu temple located on the banks of the Shambhavi River in Mulki, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka. Situated along NH66, the temple is easily accessible and attracts thousands of devotees and travelers throughout the year. Its peaceful surroundings and traditional architecture make it one of the most visited temples in coastal Karnataka.

The temple has a unique and inspiring history dating back several centuries. According to local tradition, Bappa Beary, a Muslim merchant, was transporting goods by boat when it became stranded in the Shambhavi River. After praying to Goddess Durga Parameshwari, the boat was freed, and in gratitude he helped establish a shrine at the site. Over time, the shrine developed into the present-day temple. This remarkable story has made Bappanadu Temple a symbol of communal harmony, where people of different faiths come together with respect and devotion.

The temple is especially vibrant during the annual Bappanadu Jatre (Brahmakalashotsava), when thousands of devotees gather to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga Parameshwari. The beautifully decorated temple, traditional rituals, and devotional atmosphere make this festival one of the most significant celebrations in the region.

During my visit, I enjoyed exploring the temple premises and admiring its beautiful architecture and peaceful atmosphere. The temple offers ample parking, wheelchair-accessible entrances, drinking water, restrooms, and a footwear stand for visitors. Free Anna Prasada (midday meals) is served to devotees every afternoon, reflecting the temple’s tradition of hospitality and service.
