Santa Cruz de la Serós.

Located on the left bank of the river Aragón. Santa Cruz de la Serós has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site of the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela.

Its name, “de la Serós”, refers to the nuns (sorores or serols) who established their Benedictine monastery there until the end of the 16th century, when it moved to Jaca.

The only thing left of it is the magnificent church of Santa María, a jewel of Aragonese Romanesque and contemporary of the Cathedral of Jaca.

The monastery, which was founded by Ramiro I of Aragon around 1060, reached its greatest splendour during the stay of Doña Sancha, daughter of the monarch and widow of Count Ermengol III of Urgel, who entered as abbess in 1070.

She was buried there after her death in 1095 in a splendid sarcophagus that is currently in the Royal Monastery of the Benedictines of Jaca.

At the entrance to the village we also find the church of San Caprasio from the 11th century, an old parish church and one of the few examples of Lombard Romanesque in Jacetania and one of the most interesting that can be found in the Pyrenees.

It is essential to take a walk through its charming streets and enjoy its popular architecture, before leaving…, I recommend a good place to quench your thirst,

Espantabrujas, located at the entrance to the village, on the right, before arriving at the car park, you will not regret it.

Hey @Thiel-Sartawsky ,

Thank you for tagging me. I was expecting a nice post from you. Your photos are amazing and very professional!

I heard about the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela two years ago when a friend of mine told me he had decided to travel along it. I also know that it is 700 km long but he only did half of it starting from Leon.

After that I watched a movie called “The way” with Martin Sheen to learn more about this road. It is a great physical challenge and I admire the people who were able to do it!

I was wondering if you took the pilgrimage yourself?

Hi @Thiel-Sartawsky ,

Thanks for your reply!

I am happy to hear that! We will wait for other such great posts from you!

Hi @MoniDi

No, I’ve only done a few stretches, but I’ve never done it all.

I don’t know if this is the right place, sorry if it is, but you have sent me an email with a problem in a post of mine, about the photos, I am a photographer and I have all the originals.
