Today, I’m sharing an achievement that isn’t necessarily recognized by Maps but is one that I’ve been eagerly anticipating… Today my reviews surpassed 1000 Helpful Votes!
If you follow @AdamGT Leaderboards, you will see that my photo views are over 750M and within the Top 15 of registered users. I enjoy taking photos with the goal of having them Featured, as I believe a quality first photo can have a huge impact on a Point of Interest. That’s the first impression a Maps user will have, it should be your best representation of that POI, in a photograph.
However, I also firmly believe in the power of a well written, informative and helpful Review. My goal is to write a review that the end user will read and know whether this is a place they would enjoy. Or, maybe the info I’ve shared will help them decide that place probably isn’t for them and I’ve still been helpful to that end user. This is why I’m celebrating reaching 1000 Helpful Votes
I encourage all my fellow LGs to share your helpful votes in the comments! I only have 228 Reviews and I’m positive there are many with more than that, so I’m super curious to see how many others have achieved!
Well done @Mikeinthefalls on this achievement. I totally agree thatthe first photo can have a huge impact on a Point of Interest as it’s the very first impression a Maps user will have of the place. I have to tell you that I went searching for that stat and not being a heavy mobile user, you won’t believe this but I can’t find it lol. I can’t even find that same screen
Bingo!! Eureka!! or any of those crazy interjections @AdamGT . A little persistence and I finally found it.

@Mikeinthefalls mine is 202 Reviews - 18 Ratings - 69 Helpful Votes - 221,297 Views. Seems like I’m a lot less helpful than you are.
Congratulations @Mikeinthefalls on surpassing 1000 Helpful Votes! Your dedication to writing well-informed and helpful reviews is commendable. It’s wonderful to see your goal of providing valuable information. Well done! All the best
Yes, that is the location! It’s tucked away in an almost hidden corner but it’s one of my favorite metrics to watch grow. Sorry I missed you and @AdamGT request for it’s location.
It may seem like your reviews are less helpful, based on the vote count but there are a number of factors at play. I made a conscious effort in late 2021 and all of 2022 to update and improve my reviews, with the hope of having more featured, thus helping more people. I have a journal that I record my top review metrics with and when I see a review starting to taper off in total views, I know it’s time to add or replace a photo or maybe add some details about the POI that I didn’t mention prior. I am a rather expressive person and use to limit myself to one exclamation point per paragraph. I now do my best to limit it to one per review. I’ve also stopped using emojis in reviews. I clearly don’t know what the AI filters but I do have a good eye for recognizing trends and it’s my guess that over use of either will place that review lower down the review page and not allow for views or votes because it’s really not being seen
It doesn’t always make a difference but it’s made me a better review writer and if we use Helpful Votes as an indication, it would seem that the end users are finding value from them.
Thank you @PrasadVR for the congratulations, very much appreciated! It’s always a good feeling to know you’re helping people and those Helpful Votes are a great way to know I’m helping others.
Congrats on your recent Added Places View achievement… 62 million views of the places you’ve added is very impressive!
@Mikeinthefalls That is a fantastic dedication to record keeping. I use an Excel spreadsheet to record some of my photo activity (not all), but I haven’t felt the inclination to do the same for my Reviews.
Congratulations on surpassing 1000 Helpful Votes . Your achievement reflects your dedication, expertise, knowledge and contribution. Keep up the fantastic work
Congrats @Mikeinthefalls great numbers, So you know I had to check mine!
@tony_b Mike and I have a healthy competitive streak between us, I call it helpful because it encourages both of us to strive to do better, and find and share better ways and means of doing it.
