Just recently, while updating @AdamGT 's top map contributor details, I stumbled upon my own map contribution statistics. Surprisingly, I realised I had only added two roads to Google Maps. Can you believe it? I always thought Google Maps had every road in Sri Lanka covered, especially since most of the roads I travelled were already on the platform.
Out of sheer curiosity, I decided to venture into a suburban area about 50km away from Colombo, our capital. And guess what? My assumption about the road networks on Google Maps was dead wrong. There were missing roads, especially in rural areas.
That’s when it hit me. I felt an urge to help people, especially those in rural regions. I understood the importance of having an accurate road network. It could make a world of difference for local businesses, especially during these challenging times our country is going through.
So here I am, celebrating my personal achievement and extending an invitation to all fellow local guides. Let’s join forces and ensure that the road network is fully covered on Google Maps in our respective local areas. And if it’s not, let’s step up and contribute by updating it ourselves. Together, we have the power to positively impact the lives of thousands, if not millions, of people.
@DeniGu , could we organize a dedicated week on Local Guides Connect to update road networks? And to @AdamGT , @MahabubMunna , @ErmesT , have you checked the road network in your local areas lately? Let’s work together and bring about a meaningful change!
Well done @AnuradhaP on finding so many roads to add just 50km away from Colombo! That’s an interesting looking pattern that your added roads forms. Love it!
Congratulations on your great achievement, @AnuradhaP
There is already a campaign in Connect about adding Roads in Google Maps, and we are very close to reach the goal of 50K road added. Why not to join us. Here the post by @SholaIB : What’s TRAC?Can I join??How???
Congratulations on your progress, it’s wonderful to see so many people adding roads and being helpful. As ErmesT mentioned you’re welcome to join us in the TRAC campaign.
is good to celebrate and is better to keep going on. Road mapping can be summarized in few words: Gamification (from a post of @JanVanHaver ), Addiction (from a post of @ErmesT , Curiosity (from a post of myself ).
Curiosity is what drives you to start. It makes you travel to the ends of the earth to discover how cities, roads, and the main features of villages are built. The more you build/modify, the more you want to keep going and build or find new realities. And, let’s not forget, you get points for every approved road. In the end, you become a bit “addicted” to it.
I have been helped a lot by reading posts from other users here in LGC. There is always something to learn and share. I have reached my goal of 5,000 roads and curiosity, addiction and gamification will take me further without ever losing the initial spirit: remember that proper road mapping is essential!
If you want you can join our group of road hunter… joining the TRAC Campaign created by @SholaIB (read his post)
@MarcoDavoli Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I must admit that I have developed a bit of an addiction to Local Guides Connect and Google Maps, as can be seen from my past contributions. I appreciate your invitation to join the TRAC Campaign and am happy to report that I have already done so.
Felicitaciones @AnuradhaP por el logro alcanzado, indudablemente que tus aportes sobre los caminos y/o carreteras serán muy importantes para toda la comunidad.
