Prior to the meetings later this week in Tokyo I wanted to share some random and lovely facts and cultural observations from my 4 days of traveling in Japan.
Enjoy!
Order food in restaurants on a tablet and pay when you exit using QR codes and electronic payments. No staff involved.
You’re right about the portion bring smaller. So large cup in Starbucks is probably medium in US, for example. Also some restaurants offer small, medium, large size to accommodate different level of hungryness.
Regarding plastic, yes they use a lot of plastics, but they also recycle a lot.
I’m surprised you found cannabis store though. Do you have link to the location? I always thought it’s illegal in Japan.
I found the shady stores in Okayama. I have not yet uploaded the photos to Google Maps. Maybe they don’t have a website. There is not even a name on the storefront!
Hi @MortenCopenhagen My cousin is married to a Japanese person. When she came here, she asked me how you eat so much. However, it was just a Turkish breakfast . You are right about the toilets. Frankly, the most challenging issue for me in Europe is the toilets. Turkey has a similar system.why not have europe countrys The food is quite healthy. That’s why the age at death is also high. It’s high. I’m sure you’ve experienced a complete culture shock after Europe. Have a nice trip. Don’t come here without trying rotating system the sushi restaurants around here.
Wow, Japan sounds like a blend of modern conveniences and unique cultural experiences! I’ve always been intrigued by them. It’s fascinating how even the little things, like toilet experiences, can be so different. Safe travels and enjoy Tokyo!
@MortenCopenhagen oh interesting! I gave it a look and it looks like more for medicinal purpose, unlike the ones we have here in California. I don’t smoke so it doesn’t really matter to me, but I remember mentioning this to an Osaka Local Guide while I was there a few years back and he kinda gave me a hard time for even mentioning it (perhaps the rules have changed)
@MortenCopenhagen I’m absolutely sure that a baby chair like this in bathrooms around the world would help many families. It’s terrible to go to the bathroom with babies in your arms.
Thank you, dear CM @MortenCopenhagen , for sharing your firsthand experience in Japan. I like your post and came to know new things about Japan. I appreciate the concept of a baby-chair in the bathroom. The practice of keeping a basket with hair ties is quite unexpected.
Thanks for the interesting facts @MortenCopenhagen . The food looks so yummy and unusual that I’d love to taste all the pieces.
A baby seat in restrooms can be a great help for parents. I wish they were all over the world.
As for payment by QR, it’s rolling out in Ukraine. A number of cafes and restaurants use a QR-code for the system where you can look through a menu (divided into tabs for various types of dishes and alcohol), check and pay the bill, and leave a review. I find it very convenient.
@MortenCopenhagen Thank you very much. I learned a lot of new things. All the food seems to be very safe and unadulterated. Just looking at it makes me want to eat it. But I will have nothing to eat. But the most interesting thing is to see the performance of the toilet. It’s really funny. Japan is at the highest level in terms of technology.
Thank you @MortenCopenhagen for sharing such informative and observatory post! I am sure such key fascinating points would help who want to visit Japan! This would be a sure sure read post! Indeed, a helpful post!
