10 best places for tea time or brunch in Buenos Aires

This is actually a very large post title in English, because in Spanish we have a word for that: “merienda”.

We call merienda to the action of having some kind of breakfast in the afternoon.

I love meriendas. And I love international food.

This is why I have been organizing the “International brunch” or “Merienda internacional” for the past few years.

But let’s talk about where we can access to the best coffees or teas with sweet stuff, in Buenos Aires.

  1. Bartola: this place in Palermo near plaza Armenia is very good. It is a small place but you can find 5 different kind of meriendas there. “Porteño” is the classic Buenos Aires brunch (coffee and medialunas), and there is also an “American” one and a “Healthy” option.

  2. The Coffee Store: merienda is good and medium size. I can recommend the one which includes granola yogurth. The coffee is good and the service is excellent.

  3. Oui-oui: a French place where you can order the brunch (including delicious stuff like salmon and eggs) and also try the typical French croque monsieur.

  4. Tienda de Café: this is one of my favorites. There is no brunch in Argentina without medialunas (small and very sweet croissants), but you can also order sandwiches (with free nachos) or healthy low calories options (BC).

  5. Las Violetas: I decided to include this option because is a very typical place in Buenos Aires. Despite is not my favorite, is considered a classic. So, maybe if you are looking for a good place to have a tea with your mom or grandma, do not hesitate and pick this option.

  6. Café Martinez: I think this is quite expensive compared with other options but you have to try Café Martinez’s dulce de leche. I recommend the coffee with toasts and dulce de leche, but the brunch is also very good and the cakes are decent.

  7. Nucha: another expensive option compared to the first ones, but you can’t leave Buenos Aires without trying Nucha’s cakes. This lady started her business in a garage, and now is one of the biggest gastronomic franchices in BA.

  8. Pani: ohh, Pani’s cakes are the best, also very original. Is a gourmet kind of place where you can also find pudins, alfajores and many more things.

  9. Le Pain Quotidien: funny thing I saw is the cup doesn’t have a handle. But anyway, coffee smells very good and there are a lot of options for breakfast and tea time.

  10. Fullcity Coffee House: this is the best coffee in the list. I tried the best affogato there.

BONUS TRACK:

  1. Tiendas Naturales: I always order the brunch because the tea has refill. This is the first time I see tea refill in BA. Also the food is good and they have chocotorta (typical argentinean chocolate cake made with cookies).

  2. COCO Café: the best French Toast (pain perdu) I tried is in COCO Cafe. This options also has ice cream and honey.

  3. Lattente: another great option if you are looking for a coffee with a good taste.

I will continue visiting “meriendas” places. I also have a lot more to add to the list. And some other options that are not franchices (will prepare another list for a future post). I hope you can enjoy this options as I did.

Thank you for visiting!
