This is indeed great @Louis_Phan , so why to take the risk of being banned by violating the policies?
I think you should stay on the safe side. It will take a bit longer to reach L10, and you will lose some points, but please delete all the photos added more than once, and all the photos added in more than one place.

A lot of people have no idea about this, but the result can be very unpleasant, so please take care of your account
Does this mean uploading the same photo to two different places (i.e. uploading a photo of Steve Madden to Del Amo Fashion Center as well as the store itself)?

If it is against the rules to post the photo of a store to the store’s place on Google Maps and the same photo to the shopping mall that it is in, then why did my photo get featured on the store and on the shopping mall anyway? I uploaded a photo of Tilly’s on its place on Google maps and the same photo to the shopping mall and it got featured on both places.
This is a well-known issue, @Louis_Phan : Google Maps filters sometimes fail to detect violations of their rules. This doesn’t mean it isn’t a violation. On the contrary, it is a violation that, as stated in the policy I’ve already shared, warrants suspension from the program.
Unfortunately, most Local Guides have never read the policies, even though they all confirmed they had, and they base their belief that they have done everything right on statements like yours: “If Maps accepted it, how can it be wrong?”
We often read posts on Connect from confused users who can’t understand why, all of a sudden, content that had been visible for years is being removed, accounts are being suspended, and so on.
That’s why, from time to time, I post to explain the policies.

The answer is quite simple, @Louis_Phan: the function (or person) deciding what is featured and the SPAM filter are two separate functions not “talking” to each other.
