1 Day trip to Kyoto with Kid

A trip for my kid begin again, this time I chose Japan to travel with my little one.

I had my parents with us on this trip, and I took foldable baby stroller along, so that my child could nap.

We traveled to Kansai Province, and stayed all 7 nights in Osaka as not willing to move stuffs all around.

This chapter, I’ll talk about the itinerary and what happened when travel with a child.

Travel from Osaka to Kyoto:

It’d better to avoid rush hour, so we left hotel at 6.00am, including lost time, we arrived Kyoto around 8am.

List of places we visited in 1 Day:

We planned but didn’t stict with it, however preferred to go as time and

  • Kinkakuji temple (the Golden Pavilion) - 400JPY
  • Ryoanji Temple (龍安寺, Ryōanji) - 500JPY
  • Gion (祇園) - Free
  • Higashiyama District (東山) - Free
  • Kiyomizu-dera Temple (under contruction)
  • Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社, Fushimi Inari Taisha) - Free

Kinkakuji temple (the Golden Pavilion)

It’s one of the most famous temple in Kyoto, there was a long line before the entrance open at 9.00. After the gate openned, it was crowded inside both backpackers, and tour groups. baby stroller is also not recommended as it’s stone path.

Hours: 9:00 to 17:00

Admission: 400 JPY

Ryoanji Temple (龍安寺, Ryōanji)

Zen’s 15 Rocks temple, it is famous as visitors go to count how many stone they can count. It is not recommend to bring the baby stroller inside as it’s stones path, so I left my child outside with my mom.

Admission: 500 JPY

Gion (祇園)

Kyoto’s most famous geisha district. The photo below shows the sign what you should not do to Gion or Geisha.

The nice thing about this alley is the way before arriving the Gion District. It’s the main shopping area where there’s canel to enjoy yourself in the center of the crowd.

Higashiyama District (東山)

This ancient time walk way is packed, but it is very much enjoyable as there are shops and old tradition housing style to explore.

It is located between Kiyomizudera and Yasaka Shrine.

I tried a mutcha ice-cream. It’s the best Mutcha Ice-cream I’ve ever had in my Japan trip, you might have other choice but worth trying.

Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社, Fushimi Inari Taisha)

The first place we thought that the gate was just that we saw in pictures, BUT then we visit, the gates are countless. It took me hours and not finish as time not permit. However, I went nearly to the finish path. I went on the wrong way back, so I walked on the housing way lol. It was cool.

You can also try food stall at the entrance, but the price is a little (or more) higher than other places in general.

Admission: Free

We got back to Osaka during the rush hour, around 5-6 PM. It was hectic, as no one care about you, your child, and stroller. They got off the train and nearly flush my baby out off the train. So, please avoid as much as possible not to meet the rush hour, Or if unable to avoid like me, please look after your accompay well.

I’ll continue my other days in Nara, Himeji, and Osaka again.

If you have time, I’d suggest to spend more than 1 day in Kyoto lol. I backpacked with my parents my child, so we preferred to stay all 7 nights in Osaka, and traveled to other neighbors city.

Kyoto was great and still have a lot to see.

Hi, I was in Japan and I really enjoyed it, I did not get to Kyoto, I suppose I will not give up on a trip to Kyoto the next time I’m in Japan.
I loved my first stay in Japan, one of the most interesting countries I visited, especially from the cultural point of view and the people, and of course the scenery.
Thanks to yuore reply!
